Kratos Powers Boeing's JDAM Long Range with Domestic Engine Supply
Kratos has secured a major contract to supply engines for Boeing's JDAM Long Range precision-guided munition. The company will provide its TDI-J85 engines, which have been selected to power the weapon. The JDAM LR is designed to carry a 500-pound-class payload over a range of more than 300 nautical miles.
The $75 million U.S. Air Force award to Boeing for the BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Unit has led to this partnership with Kratos. The company's expanded Spartan engine capacity will support several customers and applications, including Boeing's JDAM LR programme.
Kratos has ordered long-lead components for a large Spartan engine production run planned for 2027. This production run is expected to generate economies of scale and reduce costs. The company is also implementing a three-phase manufacturing infrastructure plan to expand output and support faster responses to new customer requirements.
