Kraven the Hunter Joins Disney Plus Amid Failure of Sony's Spider-Man Universe
Sony's Spider-Man Universe came to an end with the release of Kraven the Hunter in 2024. Despite its poor critical reception, the film managed to gross only $62 million globally.
However, Disney has given Sony's failed universe a new life by acquiring the rights to stream these films on their platform, including Morbius, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Madame Web, among others. Kraven the Hunter will join this collection, available exclusively on Disney Plus starting September 13.
The film, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, has been met with mixed reviews for its baffling portrayal of the character. Taylor-Johnson described his take on Kraven as an apex predator and a protector of the natural world, which some have criticized as inconsistent with the comic book source material.
Despite its flaws, Marvel fans will still find something to enjoy in Kraven the Hunter, particularly in Christopher Abbott's portrayal of the Foreigner, a relatively obscure Marvel character who makes a brief appearance in the film. This is likely to be of interest to fans looking forward to his upcoming role as Professor Charles Xavier in Marvel Studios' X-Men film.
