Labor Day Services Remain Open: Retailers, Restaurants, and Essential Industries Continue Operations

As Labor Day 2026 dawns on September 7 in the United States, most everyday services and businesses remain open. Although some government institutions are closed due to the federal holiday, essential industries like supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies, gas stations, airports, roads, emergency services, and hospitals continue their normal operations.

The majority of major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Kroger, Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, Publix, Safeway, Albertsons, H-E-B, Meijer, Wegmans, Sam's Club, Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, Macy's, and Kohl's, are open for business as usual. Many convenience stores, gas stations, and restaurants like McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy's, Chipotle, Domino's, IHOP, Denny's, Starbucks, Dunkin', Applebee's, Popeyes, Wingstop, and Cracker Barrel also remain operational.

Airports continue to operate with scheduled flights, while roads and highways remain open. Most public transportation systems are functioning on holiday schedules, and emergency services like hospitals, ambulance services, police departments, fire departments, and urgent-care facilities continue their regular operations.
