Lafayette City Council Votes to Remove Historic Coca-Cola Sign
The Lafayette City Council in Colorado has decided to remove a historic Coca-Cola sign from downtown Lafayette. The sign, which dates back to the mid-1900s and features the Pat and Gar's Hi-Way Bar logo, has become a beloved fixture of the city's history.
City staff were directed to move forward with a plan to preserve the 'Pat and Gar's Hi-Way Bar' portion of the mural while removing the Coca-Cola section. The removed portion would be replaced with a rotating mural program celebrating Lafayette's history, culture, and community identity.
The cost for this plan is estimated at $35,000 to $50,000, which could be covered by a proposed $50,000 contribution from the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority. Murals past the first installation could be funded through sponsorships, grants or potential Downtown Development Authority appropriations.
