Lafayette's Fading Coca-Cola Sign to be Removed Forever
The historic Coca-Cola sign in Lafayette, Colorado's Old Town has been deemed unsalvageable and will not be restored. The city had previously decided to remove the 'Coca-Cola' portion of the mural, which was created around 1950 and covered by siding in 1956. After being rediscovered during a building demolition in 2015, the sign was raised $130,000 for restoration and moved to Simpson Street in 2017.
The city is now considering several options for the sign's future, including moving it indoors or restoring it at a cost of up to $115,000. However, the most cost-effective option would be to move the sign to an indoor location for $7,500.
Despite efforts to preserve the sign, the city has determined that its condition is beyond repair due to exposure to the elements.
