Lamar U Prepares Engineers for Leadership Roles

According to Dr. Gleb Tcheslavski, Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lamar University (LU), building a successful engineering career requires a shift in approach. In today's fast-paced industry, it's no longer possible for one person to have expertise in all engineering disciplines or even within a single discipline.

Sheikh Muhammad Fareed, a graduate of LU and currently a Strategic Sourcing Specialist II at Honeywell, agrees with Dr. Tcheslavski. Employers are increasingly looking for engineers who can combine strong fundamentals with digital fluency, including data analytics, Python, supply chain modeling, automation, AI, and digital sourcing tools.

Fareed credits LU's College of Engineering (COE) with providing him with the expertise he needed to succeed in his career. He praised the COE for offering industry-aligned master's and doctoral programs, as well as opportunities to work with faculty members on research projects that bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The COE offers over $4 million in endowed scholarships each year, as well as out-of-state tuition waivers and general graduate scholarships. Fareed believes that LU's combination of technical preparation and practical problem-solving skills makes it an ideal launchpad for students who want to grow into leaders.
