Large-Cap Stocks At New Highs: Diving Into Underlying Business Trends
A recent analysis of large-cap stocks shows that six US and Canada-listed companies are trading at their 52-week highs, including tech giants Apple (AAPL) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). As of Friday, September 25, these stocks have shown significant price movements over the past month, with some posting gains as high as 32.9%. However, a closer look at their underlying business trends reveals that not all is as it seems.
While Apple's market value has risen to $4,998.8 billion, its revenue growth over the last twelve months was only 35.7%, and its operating margin was 15.7%. Similarly, AMD stock has gained 31.1% in the past month, but its revenue grew 39.5% over the same period.
Moderna (MRNA), another company on the list, had a one-month run of 32.9%, but its revenue declined by 27.7% over the last twelve months. This divergence between price and performance raises questions about how closely a stock's price tracks its underlying business trend.
