Las Vegas Ski Show Attendance Plunges Amid Industry Woes
The Las Vegas Ski Show saw a decline in attendance and exhibitors this year. According to USIA, the number of retailers attending was expected to be less than 5,700, down from the previous high of 8,064 attendees in 1989. This decrease is attributed to fewer ski shops in business, as well as some shops sending fewer people.
The total square footage of the show's ski section was down 11 percent from the average of the previous four years. Additionally, the number of exhibitors has sagged by one-third in two years, reflecting troubled times in the sporting goods industry. This decline adds up to less revenue for USIA.
American Express pulled its card from Steamboat after a dispute over promotional decals on lift ticket windows and shops. The resort refused to remove the decals, despite American Express's request. As a result, Amex ceased accepting payments at the resort.
