Lawsuit Accuses Top AI Firms of Secretly Slowing Down Innovation
A lawsuit has been filed against Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging that they made an illegal agreement to slow down their AI development.
The plaintiffs claim that this coordination took place on September 12, when Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay urging the industry to cooperate on decelerating advancements in favor of enhanced safety measures.
The other companies, including OpenAI's Sam Altman and SpaceXAI's Elon Musk, publicly responded to Amodei's proposals in agreement, which the plaintiffs argue has an anticompetitive effect on consumers.
The lawsuit argues that by slowing down their AI development, these leading companies would reduce the value consumers get from paid subscriptions to services like ChatGPT and Claude.
