Lawsuit Targets Alleged AI Slowdown Deal Among Tech Giants
A new lawsuit has been filed against Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging that they made an illegal agreement to slow down their respective AI development.
The plaintiffs argue that the coordination among these leading AI companies violated antitrust laws by reducing the value consumers get from paid AI subscriptions.
The alleged agreement took place on September 12, when Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay urging industrywide cooperation to slow down advancements in favor of enhanced safety measures. OpenAI's Sam Altman, SpaceXAI's Elon Musk, and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis publicly responded in agreement that same day.
The lawsuit argues that the slowdown would have an anticompetitive effect on consumers and proposes a nationwide class of paid subscribers to services like ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Gemini.
