Lea Salonga Becomes First Filipina to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star
Lea Salonga has become the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Tony Award-winning actress and singer was honored with her own star in the Live Performance category, marking the 2,855th star on the famous Los Angeles landmark.
The recognition is significant not only for Lea Salonga's individual achievement but also for its impact on Asian and Filipino representation in entertainment. 'The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome Lea Salonga to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,' said Ana Martinez, a Walk of Fame producer.
Salonga's career spans decades, with notable performances including originating the role of Kim in the musical 'Miss Saigon' and providing the singing voice for Princess Jasmine in Disney's 1992 animated film 'Aladdin.' Her recent recognition is a milestone for both Salonga and future generations of artists from the Filipino community.
