Cisco and other legacy telecom companies are experiencing a resurgence in importance due to their support of artificial intelligence (AI) needs. According to MarketWatch, these companies were largely forgotten for two decades but have now become essential in meeting AI requirements.

Needham analyst Ryan Koontz notes that old-school industrial technology and telecommunications firms are gaining new relevance by supporting the demands of the AI sector.

The role of legacy technologies has been revitalized as millions of miles of glass fibers, thinner than a human hair, have been laid underground and beneath the ocean's surface. These fibers enable data transmission through pulses of light at speeds exceeding 100,000 miles per second.
