Lenovo Ownership Revealed: Legend Holdings Holds 31.41%
Lenovo is one of the dominant brands in the laptop market, but who owns the company? Lenovo's massive presence in consumer tech includes laptops, tablets, PCs, servers, monitors, and various accessories. In addition to its own products, Lenovo also owns stakes in Fujitsu and Motorola.
The main shareholder of Lenovo Group is Legend Holdings Corporation, which holds 31.41% of the company's shares. Lenovo's CEO and chairman, Yang Yuanqing, has a stake of 5.94%, while other directors own 0.11%. The remaining 62.54% is split between institutions and individuals, including BlackRock, Vanguard, JPMorgan Chase, and Norway's central bank, Norges Bank.
The connection between Lenovo and the Chinese government via Legend Holdings has raised concerns among U.S. lawmakers. Legend Holdings was founded in 1984 and owns stakes in various industrial manufacturing and technology companies. The largest single stakeholder in Legend Holdings is the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), which initially funded the company in the 1980s.
Lenovo's journey to becoming a global consumer tech heavyweight began with its purchase of IBM's personal computing division in the mid-2000s, including the ThinkPad laptop brand and North American manufacturing facilities. This acquisition helped transform Lenovo from an ambitious Chinese company into a globally recognized name.
