Lidl's Freeway Cola Zero Tops Supermarket Brands in Taste Test
A recent cola zero taste test by AD magazine has found that Lidl's Freeway cola zero is the best-tasting supermarket-brand zero cola. The three-person tasting panel, consisting of Craft Drinks director Jules van Harn, food journalist Lisa van der Linden, and Cleo Vehmeyer, owner of tableware store Représentable, tested 10 different types of zero cola from various supermarkets.
The panel's top pick was Freeway cola zero with a score of 9 out of 10. The panel praised the drink for its great flavor, fizziness, and attractive color. In contrast, Coca-Cola zero finished in second place with a score of 8, with two of the three panel members praising its taste but one finding it lacking authentic cola flavor.
The test also found that First Choice cola zero from Dekamarkt came in second to last with a mediocre score of 6. The panel found Gwoon cola zero (Coop's supermarket brand) to be not sweet or flavorful enough, and one panel member even called it 'downright disgusting'.
