Lincoln City Leaders Cautious on Future Data Center Development
The city of Lincoln, Nebraska hosted a meeting to discuss Google's North Lincoln data center project. The Mayor's Resilience Lincoln Roundtable meeting allowed community members to ask questions about the project and its operations.
Google representatives and city leaders discussed various aspects of the project, including water use and how it fits into Lincoln's future growth plans. They also provided an update on the current operations at the data center site.
According to Jake Laney, Google facility manager, 'For our operational data center so far, we have a couple hundred individuals that are on site performing work that’s going to be there even after we pass our construction stage.'
City leaders emphasized their cautious approach to data center development. They stated that the city has sufficient water and energy resources to support the current project but wants to preserve those resources for future growth.
