Linux 7.4 to add mainline support for Google Tensor G5 and Pixel 10 devices
The upcoming Linux 7.4 kernel will include mainline support for Google’s Tensor G5 chip and Pixel 10 devices, marking a significant milestone for open-source development. The pull request for the SoC tree introduces the ARCH_GOOGLE symbol, specifically designed for the Tensor G5 SoC family, which has diverged from its Samsung-based predecessors.
The request also adds initial Device Tree files for the Google Pixel 10 (codenamed Frankel, Blazer, and Mustang), enabling basic support for three variants: the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL. The Tensor G5 features a Cortex-X4 core, five Cortex-A725 cores, and two Cortex-A520 cores, paired with an Imagination PowerVR DXT-48-1536 GPU. It also supports LPDDR5X memory and includes a 4th Gen TPU.
This development follows previous efforts to boot the mainline Linux kernel on Pixel 10 devices, which began last year. With the inclusion in Linux 7.4, users and developers can look forward to improved compatibility and support for these devices on the mainline kernel.
