Linux Distributions Get Creative with Microsoft-Style Clones

The Linux ecosystem has long been known for its diversity and customization options, but some distributions have taken it to an extreme by mimicking Microsoft's Windows style. In fact, at least six Linux distros have gone all-in on copying Windows' look and feel.

One of the most popular is Linux Mint, which uses its own Cinnamon desktop environment by default. Derived from GNOME, it has diverged significantly, making it one of the best graphical shells for newcomers due to its Windows-like familiarity.

Linux Mint positions elements like taskbars and system trays exactly where seasoned Windows users would expect them. The start menu includes a search bar, an alphabetical app list, and pinned favorites, all without ads or promotions.
