A new initiative aims to standardize how companies measure and manage AI token costs. The Linux Foundation's Tokenomics Foundation has launched, backed by around 30 initial members including Accenture, Booking.com, JPMorgan Chase, and SAP.

The foundation seeks to unite 'token users and suppliers' under a vendor-neutral roof, addressing the challenge of tying token usage to actual business value. This is crucial for CFOs as they struggle to quantify the value of AI in their companies.

J.R. Storment, executive director of the Tokenomics Foundation, emphasized that building visibility into consumption by model, workload, team, and project is essential for guiding budgets toward outcomes rather than flat limits.

The foundation will develop vendor-agnostic best practices to solve the tokenomics challenge, with a global technology value community providing input. Storment noted that things are moving quickly in tokenomics, so it's a balance between speed and standardization.
