Lionel Messi Takes on Executive Producer Role for Disney Series
Lionel Messi, the legendary Argentine footballer, is set to take on a new role as an executive producer for an animated series inspired by his life. Disney announced the project, titled Messi and the Giants, which is scheduled for release in summer 2027. The series follows a 12-year-old boy with Messi’s distinctive youthful hairstyle, who battles giant monsters in a virtual reality setting that showcases his soccer skills.
As Messi prepares to retire from professional soccer, this project marks one of his early ventures into entertainment. The 39-year-old is set to play a farewell friendly against Benin on Tuesday night, bringing an end to his illustrious career. While he has ruled out managing a team, Messi has expressed interest in owning his own club, a goal he is already working toward by acquiring Spanish second-tier side Eldense and fifth-tier outfit UE Cornellà.
Messi also holds a stake in Deportivo LSM, an amateur Uruguayan club co-founded by his Inter Miami teammate Luis Suárez. His transition from the pitch to the boardroom and entertainment industry highlights his diverse post-retirement ambitions, blending his passion for soccer with new creative and business endeavors.
