Live Nation Sees Global Expansion as Key to Growth
Live Nation President and CFO Joe Berchtold spoke at Goldman Sachs' Communacopia + Technology Conference, highlighting the company's global expansion plans. He emphasized that despite being a small portion of the global population, the US remains half of Live Nation's business.
Berchtold noted significant growth in Latin America, with activity 15 times higher over the past decade, although it still lags behind the US. Japan and Western Europe also present opportunities for expansion, with room for growth in these regions.
The rise of social media and streaming has enabled artists to break out of their traditional territories and become viable touring acts globally. Berchtold cited Bad Bunny as the top artist post-COVID, selling out stadiums worldwide, along with K-pop and Latin music's growing popularity.
However, Berchtold acknowledged infrastructure challenges for international touring, including building arenas or hybrid venues suitable for different markets. He also discussed the company's settlement with the Department of Justice, which has drawn criticism from competitors AEG, Messina Touring, and NIVA, who object to its terms and propose stricter penalties.
