Lockheed Martin Wins $245M Contract for IRST Pods on US-Australian Fighter Jets
Lockheed Martin has received a $245 million contract to supply 48 IRST Block II infrared search-and-track pods for U.S. and Australian Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighters.
The contract, announced by the U.S. Department of War on September 29, includes three pods for Australia along with spare parts and diagnostic equipment.
Funding was committed in full at signing, including $11 million from Australia through the Foreign Military Sales process.
The IRST Block II systems will supplement the Super Hornet's onboard radar, providing crews with an additional means of detecting airborne targets and improving situational awareness.
