Lowell Matriarch Helen Patterson Passes Away at 94
Helen Patterson, a Lowell resident and proud member of the Greek-American community, has passed away at the age of 94. Born on June 13, 1932, Helen lived a full life in her beloved hometown, surrounded by family and friends.
She met her husband, James A. Patterson, at a friend's wedding, where she caught the bride's bouquet. They married in 1953 and shared over four decades of love and commitment together until Jim's passing on June 22, 1995.
Helen's life was marked by her strong family bonds and community ties. She was an avid gardener, cook, and craftswoman, who loved to knit, sew, and embroider. Her Macedonian Cuisine of Northern Greece heritage was a source of pride for her, and she spent many happy hours in the kitchen preparing traditional dishes.
A resident of Lowell's Belvidere section, Helen lived in a beautiful country French-style home built by a local architect. She was a dedicated employee, working as a secretary at Fort Devens Army Base during the Korean Conflict and later as an executive secretary at Honeywell in Billerica, MA.
