Lowes Rolls Out AI-Powered Surveillance Across US Stores
Lowe's, a publicly traded home improvement retailer, has begun installing AI-supported Flock cameras at its stores nationwide to combat organized retail crime and property crimes.
The rollout of these surveillance systems has sparked controversy among civil liberties groups, who warn that integrating private store cameras into broader police databases poses mass tracking risks that bypass regular municipal budgeting and oversight.
Lowe's is not the only retailer using Flock cameras; Home Depot has also rolled out the system to many of its stores, although it has yet to install them at its Greenville, TX location. The Sulphur Springs Lowe's in Texas has installed the cameras, joining nearly two dozen other cameras scattered around the county.
