Shane Lowry shot a five-under-par 65 at the Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg to take a four-shot lead into the final round of the Amgen Irish Open.

The home favourite's impressive performance pushed him to 16 under overall as he chases only his second Irish Open title.

Rory McIlroy, defending champion and world number two, saw his hopes of repeating his victories in 2016 and 2025 end with a four-over 74, which left him tied for 50th place.

The arrival of United States President Donald Trump on Air Force One did not distract Lowry from his focus, as he excelled with his putting on the back nine to seal his position at the top.
