Lowry Smashes Record with Dominant Irish Open Win
Shane Lowry dominated the field at the Amgen Irish Open, securing his second victory in the tournament and breaking the record for the largest margin of victory with an 11-shot win.
The 39-year-old golfer teed off on Sunday with a four-shot lead and went on to make eight more birdies, including two monster putts from 45 feet at holes seven and 15. His closest challengers were unable to close the gap, with Jacob Skov Olesen and Joaquin Niemann finishing tied for second on 12 under.
Lowry's performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he extended his lead to four shots on Saturday in front of watching United States President Donald Trump. The Irishman credited his wife and kids for their support, saying 'I'm so happy for them. I can't wait to bring a trophy home.'
Lowry's victory marked his second win at the Irish Open, following his first triumph as an amateur in 2009. He also won the 2019 Open on home soil at Royal Portrush Golf Club.
