Lowry Takes Commanding Lead into Final Round of Amgen Irish Open

Shane Lowry, the home favourite at the Amgen Irish Open, carded a five-under-par 65 on Saturday to take a commanding four-shot lead into the final round. The 37-year-old's impressive performance saw him move to 16 under overall, with Dane Jacob Skov Olesen in second place.

Lowry's round was played amidst the arrival of United States President Donald Trump, who watched Rory McIlroy finish his round at the Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg. McIlroy, however, struggled to find his rhythm, carding a four-over 74 that saw him drop out of contention for a third Irish Open title.

McIlroy's hopes were dealt a blow by a pair of double bogeys early in the round, which he attributed to wayward drives and a loss of momentum. Despite being on hand to attend a dinner with Trump, McIlroy maintained his focus, but ultimately couldn't recover from his poor start.
