Luck Stone Expands Autonomous Hauling Technology to Two New Sites

Luck Stone, a leading quarry and aggregates producer in Virginia, is expanding its use of autonomous hauling technology at two additional operations. The company has been working with Caterpillar to implement this technology since November 2024, when it first went live at the Bull Run Quarry.

At Bull Run, Luck Stone's autonomous trucks have hauled over 3.5 million tons of material. This success has led to an expansion of the technology to two more sites, Boscobel and Bealeton, where it will be integrated with Cat 775 trucks, a key haul truck model in the quarry industry.

Luck Stone Vice President of Engineering & Operations Support Travis Chewning said that autonomy is creating a safer workplace and improving consistency for customers. He noted that the collaboration with Caterpillar has helped Luck Stone ignite human potential and develop new skills among its associates.

Caterpillar's autonomous hauling technology has already shown impressive results, having hauled over 13 billion tons of material and traveled over 455 million kilometers without incident. The company is confident that this expansion will help accelerate innovation in the industry.
