Lufthansa Bolsters Boeing 737 MAX Order, Exercises Options for 20 Additional Jets
Lufthansa has increased its order for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft after exercising options for an additional 20 planes in September. This brings Lufthansa's total order book with Boeing to 60 737 MAX jets, including both 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 10 models.
The deal is valued at $3.4 billion, although the actual price paid by Lufthansa may be lower due to negotiations with Boeing. The 20 additional 737 MAX 10 aircraft will help replace aging Airbus A320 family planes within the group and provide greater capacity flexibility.
Lufthansa's decision marks a significant shift for the airline, which had previously ditched the Boeing 737 family around a decade ago. However, with the latest order, Lufthansa is now set to operate both the 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 10 models, offering options in terms of capacity and range.
