Lufthansa Cuts Frankfurt-Chicago Flights Amid Seasonal Demand Shift

Lufthansa is reducing its Frankfurt (FRA) to Chicago O'Hare (ORD) flights, cutting back from 14 weekly Boeing 787 flights to 10. This change will take effect between October 26, 2026, and January 15, 2027.

From January 16 through the end of the Northern Winter 2026/27 season on March 27, 2027, Lufthansa will further reduce its service to Chicago, dropping from two daily flights to one. The only Boeing 787-9 flight will be removed from mid-January.

The reduction in capacity is part of a broader strategy by the airline to match demand more closely in markets with seasonal fluctuations. This includes the planned removal of Airbus A380s from California routes, which will see the aircraft redeployed to support additional services from Munich to Bangkok.
