Lufthansa Doubles Down on Boeing 737 MAX Order with Additional 20 Planes

Lufthansa Group has added 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft to its existing order, bringing the total number of MAX planes on order to 60. The decision comes after the group approved the purchase options in 2023 for an additional 60 aircraft from the MAX family.

The MAX 10 is the largest variant in the 737 MAX family and will give Lufthansa Group greater seating capacity than the MAX 8s already on order. Deliveries of the new planes are expected to begin in the early 2030s, with the first MAX 10s replacing older Airbus A320 family aircraft across the group.

The airline claims that the MAX 10 can consume around 30% less fuel than its predecessors and reduce unit costs by approximately 20%. These characteristics will be particularly relevant in Europe's dense network, where aircraft utilization and seat economics play a central role.
