Lufthansa Exercises Options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 Aircraft

Lufthansa Group has exercised options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft as part of its fleet modernization program. The order, worth approximately $3.4 billion, builds on a 2023 deal for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and includes 60 purchase options for additional planes from the same family.

The delivery of the newly ordered MAX 10s is scheduled to begin in the early 2030s. By exercising these options, Lufthansa Group strengthens its long-term capacity planning and aims to gradually replace older Airbus A320 family aircraft across the group.

The Boeing 737 MAX 10 offers additional comfort for passengers with greater seating capacity than the MAX 8. It also consumes around 30% less fuel compared to the older aircraft it will replace, reducing unit costs by approximately 20%. This move is expected to contribute significantly to Lufthansa's goal of reducing CO2 emissions and improving efficiency on European routes.

This order forms part of Lufthansa Group's ongoing fleet modernization program, which includes plans to take delivery of over 250 new aircraft by 2035. The airline group expects this investment in an efficient and sustainable fleet to have a lasting impact on its operations.
