Lufthansa Group Buys Boeing 737 MAX 10s with Estimated Fuel Efficiency Gains
Lufthansa Group has ordered 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10s to replace older Airbus A320-family aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the early 2030s.
The group announced on September 17, 2026, that it is exercising options placed alongside its 2023 purchase of 40 MAX 8s. This transaction increases its firm MAX orders to 60 total aircraft.
Lufthansa Group put the order's list value at approximately $3.4 billion and estimates the new aircraft will consume about 30% less fuel than those they replace, with higher seating capacity helping reduce unit costs by approximately 20%.
According to Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, testing for the MAX 10 is complete, but certification remains pending. 'Now we're just in the documentation phase,' he said at the Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference on September 16.
