Lufthansa Picks Boeing MAX 10 to Replace Airbus Jets in Europe

Lufthansa has signed off on ordering twenty Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft from options exercised in 2023. The list value of this order is approximately $3.4 billion, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the early 2030s.

The planes will replace older Airbus A320-family jets across the Lufthansa Group's airlines, not the newer A320neo fleet. According to the airline, the Boeing 737 MAX 10 is roughly 30% more fuel-efficient and has about 20% lower unit costs compared to the aircraft it replaces.

The choice of the MAX 10 over other variants was due to its ability to carry more passengers per departure for the same crew, slot, and landing fee. This makes it a good fit for congested European hubs where slots are a constraint.
