MacBook Neo Pressure Forces Microsoft to Prioritize Windows 11 Efficiency
The recent release of Microsoft's Windows 11 has been making waves in the tech world due to its increased focus on efficiency, particularly for systems with 8GB of RAM. However, a recent analysis suggests that this shift is not solely a response to the DRAM shortage.
According to IDC Research Manager Jitesh Ubrani, the introduction of the MacBook Neo has put significant pressure on the entire PC ecosystem. The MacBook Neo's competitive pricing and efficient memory management capabilities have forced Microsoft and its partners to adapt.
Ubrani notes that vendors will likely respond with new silicon, a more efficient OS from Microsoft, and aggressive promotional pricing. This is evident in Apple's ability to deliver impressive performance with only 8GB of RAM, as seen in tests where the MacBook Neo can open 60 apps simultaneously without consuming excessive memory.
In contrast, Dell's XPS 13 with the same amount of RAM is already using 70% of its available memory before even opening a program or browser window. This disparity has led Microsoft to prioritize making Windows 11 more efficient for 8GB systems, ensuring that users can run their applications smoothly.
