Mahama Meets Boeing to Resurrect Ghana's National Airline
Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama met with Boeing executives at the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss a strategic partnership for reviving Ghana's national airline.
The meeting, part of ongoing engagement between Ghana and Boeing, aims to build a broader partnership that goes beyond aircraft purchases. Ghana wants a long-term relationship that will help create a competitive aviation ecosystem, including skilled jobs, technology transfer, and industrial growth.
Mahama emphasized the country's desire for a strategic partnership that aligns with its efforts to reset the economy and create opportunities for investment, skills development, and industrial growth. The President stated, 'Ghana does not want its relationship with Boeing to be defined simply by the purchase of aircraft. We want a strategic partnership that helps us build an aviation ecosystem, creating skilled jobs, transferring technology, strengthening our industrial base, and positioning Ghana as an aviation and logistics hub for West Africa.'
The discussions covered key areas such as fleet development, national carrier revival, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, training, skills development, and technology transfer. A regional MRO hub in Ghana could serve airlines across West Africa and the wider African continent.
