Malaysia Airlines Nears Historic Deal with Boeing
Malaysia Airlines is on the cusp of ordering ten Boeing 787-10 aircraft to replace its leased Airbus A350s. The deal marks a significant shift for the airline, which has gone without Boeing widebodies since retiring its 777 fleet in 2016.
The move will add capacity and open up new route options for Malaysia Airlines, with deliveries set to commence in 2031. The airline opted for the 787-10 over the A350 due to better engine terms from GE Aerospace and earlier delivery slots.
Malaysia Airlines currently operates a mix of Airbus aircraft, including 30 A330s and seven leased A350-900s. It also has 40 A330-900s on order, with only ten delivered so far. The airline's narrowbody fleet remains dominated by Boeing 737s.
