Malaysia Airlines on Brink of Massive Boeing Order
Malaysia Airlines is on the cusp of ordering Boeing's 787 Dreamliners to revamp its long-haul fleet, according to sources familiar with the matter. The carrier's parent company, Malaysia Aviation Group, is likely to place an order for around ten 787-10s.
This move would see Boeing edge out Airbus SE, which had been a preferred choice for Malaysia Airlines since 2016. The new planes will reportedly replace seven leased Airbus A350 jets and provide room for future growth.
The deal has significant political undertones, as US President Donald Trump's administration tied Boeing orders to trade pacts with various countries. Last year, Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the country would purchase 30 Boeing aircraft with options for 30 more.
