Malaysian Micro-Entrepreneurs Thrive with Project Umbi's Support
More than 1,400 micro-entrepreneurs in Malaysia are benefiting from initiatives like Project Umbi, which helps them turn their small-scale food and beverage businesses into reliable sources of income.
The programme, a collaboration between The Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (Ikmas) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and The Coca-Cola Foundation, has shown early success with 86.6% of participants earning close to RM6,000 in monthly profit.
Project Umbi focuses on strengthening basic financial awareness and daily operational skills among vendors, which enables them to manage routine living expenses more effectively.
The programme's lead researcher, Dr Muhamad Azwan Abd Rahman, noted that the majority of participating micro-entrepreneurs are able to support themselves and their families with their earnings, highlighting the importance of income continuity in household finances.
