Man Brought Down by Police Dog After Daring Foot Chase Through Home Depot
Polk County deputies apprehended Christopher Chapman, 36, after he led them on a high-speed foot chase through a crowded Home Depot parking lot in Lakeland. The pursuit began when deputies confronted Chapman about an outstanding warrant out of Hillsborough County for charges related to leaving the scene of a crash, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license, and failing to register as a career offender.
Despite multiple orders to stop, Chapman continued running across the pavement until K9 Reno was released. The dog caught up to Chapman, biting him and bringing him down to the asphalt. Deputies secured him in handcuffs after the incident.
Chapman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his bite wounds before being transported to the Polk County Jail. Sheriff Grady Judd stated that Chapman 'went to jail tired and bitten by our canine when all he had to do was give up peacefully.'
