Mangione Expected to Plead Guilty in Federal Case Related to CEO's Killing
Luigi Mangione is expected to plead guilty in federal court on August 14 for his role in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. This development could have significant implications for a separate case he faces in state court.
Mangione, a 28-year-old Ivy League graduate, was arrested on December 9, 2024, after a five-day manhunt following Thompson's killing outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024. At the time of his arrest, Mangione possessed fake identification cards, a loaded 9mm pistol with a silencer, and thousands of dollars in cash.
The federal charges against Mangione include two counts of stalking resulting in death and firearms offenses. His state trial is set to begin on September 8, where he faces charges of second-degree murder, weapons possession, and possession of a forged instrument.
