Mangione Murder Trial Postponed Amid Double Jeopardy Fight
Luigi Mangione's state murder trial has been indefinitely postponed as his lawyers seek to have the case thrown out on double jeopardy grounds.
Mangione, 28, pleaded guilty last week to federal charges related to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024.
The defense argues that Mangione is being 'punished twice for the exact conduct' and claims he's a 'pawn in parallel prosecutions.'
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office will fight efforts to end the state case, citing the possibility of a life sentence if Mangione is found guilty.
