Mangione Pleads Guilty to Stalking Charges in UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder

Luigi Mangione, 28, has pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. On December 4, 2024, Mangione shot and killed Thompson in Midtown Manhattan as he walked to a conference.

Mangione admitted to sending emails to UnitedHealthcare posing as an investor managing $58 billion, which prompted him to print a gun using a 3D printer. He confessed that his actions would place Thompson in fear of death or bodily injury and acknowledged the severity of the crime.

The Thompson family is seeking justice for Brian's murder, stating that nothing will ease their pain but they are grateful that the federal justice system has held Mangione accountable. The maximum sentence for both stalking charges is life in prison, with a minimum sentence guideline suggesting 292 months or over 24 years.
