Mangione Trial for UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Looms
Luigi Mangione, 28, is set to face trial in September for the 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione was arrested in December 2024 after a five-day nationwide manhunt.
The state case against Mangione includes charges of second-degree murder, possession of a forged instrument, and multiple weapons-related counts. Prosecutors claim they have evidence including hundreds of hours of surveillance video, fingerprints, DNA, and a notebook allegedly written by Mangione expressing hatred for insurers and a desire to kill.
Mangione's lawyers have remained tight-lipped about their trial strategy, but a July court filing suggested they might argue that Mangione suffered an extreme mental health breakdown at the time of the crime. However, he has pleaded not guilty in both the state and federal cases.
