A recent Google Earth satellite imagery update has given a startling view of Manistee County's historic April flooding.

The new images show large plumes of sediment washing into Lake Michigan from the Big Manistee River, turning the river channel and Manistee Lake a sandy brown with sediment.

The flooding caused damage to homes as well as some road crossings over waterways, with High Bridge Road south of Brethren still closed due to the flooding.
