Margaret Armstrong: A Life of Resilience and Adventure

Margaret Armstrong, a woman of remarkable spirit and resilience, lived an extraordinary life that spanned nearly a century. Born on January 5, 1920, in Brackney, Pennsylvania, she grew up on a farm during the Great Depression, where she learned to be resourceful and independent.

Margaret met her future husband, Thomas Armstrong, in high school in nearby Binghamton, New York. They married soon after World War II began, and Margaret's nursing degree took her to various locations with Tom, who worked for IBM. They fell in love with San Francisco during the war and vowed to return.

The couple settled in Saratoga near Silicon Valley in 1957, when Tom was promoted at IBM. In mid-life, Margaret pursued a bachelor's degree, demonstrating her lifelong curiosity and thirst for knowledge. After 64 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by her husband and their beloved daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' Barney.

Margaret continued to live life on her own terms, moving to San Diego to be closer to her son and family. She made new friends at the bridge table and library at her senior living community in Del Mar, where she lived until her passing on February 11, 2018.
