Marist University Taps IBM's z17 Mainframe for AI Research
Marist University and IBM have launched an AI innovation incubator to support research projects across various academic disciplines. The incubator is an expansion of a partnership between the two entities, which has existed for over 50 years.
The IBM z17 mainframe will provide computing power for research involving students and faculty from fields such as computer science, mathematics, management, marketing, business, environmental science, and library sciences. Three initial projects have been identified: synthetic marketing campaigns operated by AI agent teams, a project using quantum optimization algorithms to analyze real-time financial data, and an exploration of how AI could improve polling methodologies.
The incubator aims to provide students with experience in developing and testing applications on enterprise technology designed for large organizations. Marist President Kevin Weinman stated that the future of higher education lies at the intersection of academic excellence and industry engagement.
