In recent years, several large companies have reached market capitalizations of over $1 trillion. As of August 7, 2026, there are more than a dozen such companies. Apple was the first to reach this milestone in 2018.

The top 10 largest companies by market cap include Nvidia at $5.4 trillion, Apple at $4.5 trillion, Alphabet at $4.3 trillion, and Microsoft at $3.7 trillion.

The question remains: should you own the stock of large companies? Proponents argue that these massive valuations are a result of their successful execution and growth over time.

However, there are pros and cons to investing in both large and small-cap companies. Large companies tend to be more established and stable, but they can drop sharply on occasion. Small-cap companies have the potential for faster growth, but they're often riskier propositions.
