Market Turmoil Claims Three Stocks Amid Merger Pause, Consumer Spending Concerns
Three major stocks, Paramount Skydance (PSKY), McDonald's (MCD), and Northrop Grumman (NOC), tumbled to their 52-week lows on Tuesday amid various market uncertainties.
The decline of PSKY stock was largely due to the pause in its proposed $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) after a federal judge hit a temporary halt, citing antitrust concerns. The combined company would allegedly control around 27% of the US wide-release movie market and over 30% of major theatrical releases.
McDonald's shares fell to a 52-week low of $263.65 as investors remain concerned about slowing consumer spending and rising cost pressures. CEO Chris Kempczinski had previously warned of a 'challenging environment' that could worsen, particularly for low-income consumers.
Northrop Grumman's stock plummeted to its lowest point this year after the company reported margin compressions and a weak earnings outlook in its second-quarter results. Despite strong headline numbers, the aerospace and defense firm's operating margin narrowed by 3.7 percentage points year-over-year to 10.1%.
