Marqeta Partnerships Challenge Diversification Narrative
Marqeta's latest partnerships and financial results have raised questions about its diversification narrative. In August, the company reported revenue of US$176 million and net income of US$7.57 million for the second quarter. The results were accompanied by guidance for mid-single to low-teens net revenue growth.
Marqeta highlighted new partnerships with Google and Riskified, which underscore its push to deepen enterprise relationships while strengthening real-time decisioning and card-issuing capabilities. Specifically, Marqeta is powering the expanded role of Google Wallet for kids and teens, as well as providing Riskified's pre-authorization risk intelligence.
The question remains whether these partnerships will reshape Marqeta's investment narrative around product breadth and diversification. While the company has made progress in broadening its customer base beyond a few large customers, concentration risk and competition in card issuing remain key concerns.
