Marvell's Azure Payment HSM v2 Taps into $5 Billion Hardware Security Market
Marvell Technology's shares surged by up to 5% on Thursday after the chipmaker unveiled its new cloud-native payment security service in collaboration with Microsoft and Utimaco. The platform, Azure Payment HSM v2, combines Marvell's LiquidSecurity hardware security modules with Utimaco's Atalla Payments Module software, all delivered as a fully managed service on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform.
The new offering targets the $5 billion hardware security market projected to reach by 2033. It provides banks and payment processors with a hardware-backed, compliant, and highly available foundation for securing critical payment workloads and transactions, supporting card issuance, PIN protection, mobile payment processing, and cryptographic key management.
For financial institutions operating under strict regulatory oversight, the managed-service model shifts the burden of hardware lifecycle management to Microsoft's cloud operations. The public preview of Azure Payment HSM v2 will allow early customers to validate performance, key management workflows, and compliance documentation before general availability.
